CONSUMERS GET HELP IN FIGHT AGAINST UNSAVORY BUSINESSES

Needham, MA - April 26, 2013. Consumers Empowered, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization located in Needham, MA, presented a workshop on How to be an Empowered Consumer at the Norwood  Adult ESOL program.  Norwood ESOL is a small school where speakers of other languages attend classes 5 days a week and learn to read, speak and write effectively in English.  Thirty students attended the lively interactive workshop, which focused on understanding your rights when buying goods and services, recognizing deceptive business practices, and knowing where to go for help when problems arise.  Shopping rights, Internet Safety, Credit, and Car Buying were some of the topics explored.

Founded in 2010, Consumers Empowered provides Massachusetts consumers with tools to make informed decisions and education on Internet security and privacy issues.  Its website www.ConsumersEmpowered.org is a valuable resource for consumers looking for tips on current issues and also provides a section where questions submitted are answered.  Consumers can share their own success stories and give tips on what has worked well for them on the “Consumer Exchange.”

Needham, MA – Feb 20, 2013.  Consumers Empowered, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization located in Needham, MA, announced today that it is proud to join government and nonprofit organizations across the country to celebrate National Consumer Protection Week, March 3-9, 2013.

National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) is a coordinated campaign that encourages consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and to make better-informed decisions.  In honor of NCPW, Consumers Empowered is launching a campaign to increase knowledge of how to protect against Internet frauds and scams.  The campaign is focusing on adult learners in Adult Basic Education classes around the state.  Informational materials including 10 Tips for Cyber Security will be distributed to selected ABE students and will also be made available on its website www.ConsumersEmpowered.org during NCPW.
